I like Corning  for what its incredibly strong and orderly pipeline says about the company’s ability to produce a steady stream of new technology products. In Corning’s diverse business mix  there’s the mature but still growing technology of fiber optics, a business that continues to bounce back from the depression created by the over capacity that was generated in the Dotcom boom. The display unit, the part of Corning’s business that produces glass of LCD screens, presents the still fast-growing present. Then there’s Corning’s environmental technologies unit, which makes filters for autos and diesels, which represents the emerging future. (Full disclosure: I own shares of Corning in my personal portfolio.)
